To upload pictures:

1) Click "Manage Attachments" near the bottom of the page when you are posting a message.

2) Browse for the file on your hard drive.

3) Upload the file. NOTE - the file can be no larger than 65k bytes. If the file size of your picture is too large you will need to compress it using software like Picasa (http://picasa.google.com/), Irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com/), Gimp (http://www.gimp.org/) or Photoshop (http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/).

You CANNOT see your picture by previewing your post. It will only appear AFTER you have posted your message with the image attached.

An alternate way to insert pictures in your post:

LINK to pictures that reside on another server by using the IMG tag AS DESCRIBED HERE (http://www.mercedesshop.com/shopforum/misc.php?do=bbcode#imgcode).

I wrote up a pretty complete tutorial on resizing and posting pictures in the diesel forum, I'll leave the link here too to benefit future picture posters. ;)

Nice post... kinda smart-assed! Why not describe to others how to do it, rather than just show you can? Obviously html tags, but others might not know this...

Edit... I apologize for the overly negative tone of my post above...
To post with links to photos, you must know the url where the picture lies(resides). You can use your own server, or use one of many who will host pictures for you (like electronic on-line scrapbooks). Once you know the address, you simply insert the url inbetween html code as follows: I left off the first "[" and the last "]" so you can see the syntax...

img]http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/products/2005/065/h065S45.jpg[/img
This code, with the bracket on the start and end will result in...

http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/products/2005/065/h065S45.jpg

you can also insert hyperlinks:
URL=http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/products/2005/065/h065S45.jpg]Speakers[/URL
Once again, I left off the first and last bracket... this code results in:
Speakers (http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/products/2005/065/h065S45.jpg)
which re-directs your browser to the site (webpage)where the picture resides.

If this has been covered before, I apologize... Otherwise,
Enjoy!

I just joined the site and the SL forum today! Do I understand that adding pictures to a post is possible &, in some cases preferred? Thanks!

All on topic technical pictures are welcome.

Maximum picture size allowed by the software is 800 x 600.

Just one more question on the photos...do they need to be on a website in order for them to be inserted in the conversation? I tried the Picture icon and it requested the URL of the image. Nearly all of my photos are resident on my PC so are there "Browse" & "Insert" functions I should be using?

Thanks again!

If you are using Windows XP there is a small program from Windows that I found is great for resizing pictures. It's called image resizer.Just go to www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx)
and download the small program. Then right click the picture you want to make smaller and choose from the 3 choices it gives you.I've used this program for years now.Hope I could help...
