Yes I just saved $500! :D I was driving behind a truck on the highway and it kicked up a nice rock and chip/cracked my old sand blasted windsheild. So since I have full glass coverage I called the insurance company, they gave me the name of a few shop's and I checked them out. I found one, the guy seems to know his stuff and has done a few W126's before. He is also going to try to get me an OE windsheild or if that doesn't work out and oem.

Finally some good luck, I should be getting my new windsheild Thursday!

I decided to get new trim at a latter date, I don't want to spend $250 on trim at this time. I have to buy books for school.$$$$

believe it or not my delamination on my rear window of my 300SD was replaced under insurance , no cost to me, because the delamination caused it to be unsafe while viewing through it during the night time. Always looked like there were two of everything. New window, looks great, no cost , no insurance increase
life is good :D

How does that work with insurance?
I just had my car hit, (hit and run), and if I get the insurance to fix it, won't it go up?

Every insurance company is different (and even the same company will be different state to state and city to city).

In Missouri, with Progressive, here is what happened to me:

My front and rear glass were broken by branches falling from trees (which, like Hattie, was actually good luck, because they both had some damage on them from before I had bought the car). I have comprehensive insurance with a 100$ deductible, which is important. In MO, with Progressive, glass repairs are covered fully, but you supply the deductible. Glass repairs are free. I called Progressive and filed a claim, basically just told them what happened. They gave me a claim number, and I picked a shop. I gave the shop my insurance info and the claim number, they did the job, and I paid them 100$ (my deductible). That was it!

Now... In some states insurance companies have 'full glass coverage' without a deductible for all holders, some require that you have comprehensive insurance for it to work. Everywhere is different.

In most cases glass work will NOT raise your insurance rates. Usually claims have to be over a certain value before they begin to affect your rates. If you are unsure, ask your agent. They are the only ones who really know whats going to happen, no one on this forum can tell you the exact outcome, because there are so many companies, and so many local variations.

Besides... I've always been amused when I hear about people not claiming things because they don't want their rates to go up... My insurance is here to be USED. I don't pay 75$ a month for nothing, I pay it so my car will fixed if it gets messed up. Now, little things I understand, but glass usually doesn't raise rates, and its a serious safety issue. You do NOT want glass coming out while you are driving!

So anyway, call your insurance company's 800 number, let them know what happened, and ask what your coverage is, and how it will affect your rates. They'll give you the straight dope, and it shouldn't even be too long of a call, since glass is very common work, and they deal with it all the time.

peace,
sam

Are you going to get a new Diamler Benz sticker for the windshield also? :D If so, do tell where to get one ;)

Your local Mercedes-Benz parts dept. will have the "a product by daimler benz" decal for somewhere around $1.00.

phidauex, I should have mentioned that my door handle was smashed, not a glass issue.
I do appreciate your reply.
I am in CA, have full coverage, and pay too darn much as it is, so I am real concerned about giving them a reason to charge me more....

What's the diff between OE and OEM?

Yeah, Hattie nice going on the Brick throwing...did you hit the drivers side or the passenger side?.... :bowrofl: ..... Is your back window fine? You probably should have threw one through the back window to see if you could get a new back window as well. Just kiddin.

That's great that you were able to use the insurance. Alot of people won't do anything in fear of getting their rates hiked. I've heard things were people have reported a broken window and had their insurance cancelled. I'm not sure if that's true or no.

OE means original equipment and OEM means Original Equipment Manufacturer. Basically, it means a part specifically manufactured for Mercedes at Mercedes specs, or an aftermarket part made by the same company (usually using the same tooling).

BTW Jimmy, I cleaned out my PM box. Hadn't realized it was full.

Nothing wrong with using the insurance when you need it, but, keep in mind that the insurance company is watching the number of claims that you submit in a specific time. With my company, the number is three claims within three years. If you exceed this level, they don't want you as a customer.

So, if I submit one claim for glass ($500.) and one claim for towing ($75.) and one claim for minor collision damage ($1000.), I'm likely to be history with the current company.

Then I get to suffer the distinct displeasure of not being able to obtain insurance at a reasonable rate because of the previous claims record.

You are forewarned.

The way I understand it in CT at least they cannot raise your rates by law for glass claims. But if you have to many a year they can drop you for being high risk. I have full glass, this repair will only cost me my car for 1/2 a day.

Brick what brick? :D I don't have the guts to do that, but some 18 wheeler sure did! Actually I think they would probably replace your windsheild if it was really badly pitted. If it is getting "unsafe" to use. Mine is getting real bad driving towards a setting sun is hard with this old one.

Since I am 19 I pay $200 a month for these guys, so I figure they owe me a little. Also I have been with this company for going on 3 years and this is the only claim I have ever made. No tickets accidents nothing, I have a perfect record.

...............$2400. per year.............ouch.

I pay about $2100. for the two M/B and the Dodge B-250 here in NY. I'm sure others pay much less than this.

One of the only benefits of being in the fifth decade of life. :D

I don't even have collision! Insurance companys make a lot of money off people in my age group. But mine should go down in a couple of years. I was paying $250 a month for two months while I had the Camry and SDL. The SDL only cost $50 more a month to add.

I could use a new windshield. My old one looks like $h!t from all the rocks its gotten. I think I've seen a few "brick" trucks in my area. I'm going to check my policy. :bulb:
