MB Tech Manuals from MBUSA

----------------------------------------------------------------

I mentioned, in an earlier post, the availabilty of technical manuals for a very reasonable price from MBUSA. I got the service manual cds for my 1987 300SDL from them, and it cost $19.99 plus shipping, as opposed to the $120 I forked over to PerformanceProducts for the cds I got for the 1987 300DT.

I just received an email requesting help in locating these manuals on MBs site, and it is somewhat convoluted, so I am posting the information here, as well as a direct response to the individual who queried me. To find the manuals for your car:

Go to MBUSA website:

http://www.mbusa.com/index.do

move your cursor over the "Mercedes in Depth" pop-up

from the pop-up menu select "Classic"

on the new window that pops up, place your cursor over the "Classic Center" tab

from the pop-up menu select "Technical Literature"

in the new window that pops up, select the "Service Manual" item in the list for "Search by Literature Type", or select your specific model information in the "Search by Vehicle" section.

Don't forget to scroll through the window(s) that pop up for your searches...

In addition to the Service Manuals, many members may find the Owners Manuals and Illustrated Parts Manuals useful...

I hope this is useful (maybe put in a sticky?)

Hi Hunter!
Do these service manuals cover automatic transmission repair
procedures and electricial-troubleshooting & schematics?
[What I gues I mean to say is "Are these authentic and
complete service manuals, like the ones the guys working the
line use at the M.B. dealership"]?

I bought a cd from ebay for my 107 and it's good except there
is no automatic section. Of course that is the component that
has failed me most, [in the past and now again at this time].

Thanks!
Stan M.

You had me merrily off to the MBUSA site for a new manual. Imagine my disappointment when I saw all those models offered and no mention of the R129 500 SL anywhere. I thought I had a classic there for a moment. Do you have other sources?

Hello Mike Miller
Sorry, it is new data, not on the website yet.
You need to call MBUSA 1-800-367-6372 to order the R129 500SL DVD.

:EDIT:
"Mike", Thank you for the E-mail followup.
R129 is not on the cheap list.
$75.00 for the DVD

There is newer material available through MBUSA.

MBUSA > Classic on line lookup material ends at model year 1995.
You need to call MBUSA 1-800-367-6372 and ask them.
There is newer material available, however it is on DVD at a higher cost than the older classic data.

Dear Mr. Hunter,

Thank you for your interest in Mercedes-Benz USA.
We apologize for the delay in our response.

The CD-ROM includes technical information designed to repair one's car, it is not in a "how-to" format.

The Star Classic CD-ROM does not cover vehicle transmission.

The CD-ROM is not returnable and is compatible with an IBM computer system.

You may order this CD-ROM by calling 1-800-FOR-MERCedes with your address and credit card information or by calling an authorized Mercedes-Benz
dealer.

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Willard

I see they have the service manual for the W123.

Would you know if this is the same servide manual that skinnerbox.steaky has online? If so, that is the one I would like to get.

$20.00 is a great price!

Howdy all,

I use these folks......they aren't official "Benz folks....but their info is useful, correct, and in my opinion a subscription is well worth the cost.....$24.99 for the first vehicle and $15.99 for each additional vehicle...per year.....

http://www.alldatadiy.com/

They have most of the stuff in shop manuals, but not a bunch of "body" info. They do give you the proper part # from nice exploded views, and they give a difficulty rating for the job, as well as the cost of the part at the dealer, and the cost of the repair at the dealership.

The website is designed for the do-it-yourselfer......

Hope that this helps.....

The EPC (Electronic Parts Catalogue) is now officially and legitimately available online from DaimlerChrysler's own website. The subscription cost is a mere 15euros per annum (about US$18) (i.e. about the same as an almost unworkable and out-of-date Ebay pirate copy). The EPC works in Java. It includes everything the dealer has, except prices and I believe these are coming soon. It particularly gives the ability to search and screen by chassis number and special order codes.

http://workshop.aftersales.daimlerchrysler.com/dcagportal/DCAGPortal

The website opens in German, but the language can be set to English (or one of four others) using the drop down menu in the top right corner.

Yes, but it is in Russian and it is not very good. Try the DC one: it's worth every cent of 15euros.

USA is NOT in the list of supported countries.

I believe we're required to use StarTekInfo.

After 30+ years building and servicing US cars, I now own and work on a 99 SL500 and a '01 CLK320 Cabr....so I am looking for the original paper shop manuals for these series. I plan on getting the DVD versions as well, but would prefer to have the old fashioned books, if anyone has them to sell or can point me in the right direction. I am located in Orange county, Calif. in case there's a chance picking these up directly from the seller.

thx in advance

I followed a link from this site to http://www.startekinfo.com/StarTek/outside/8001/?requestedDocId=8001

They list a CD manual for $64.98 for W124s. It is "Model 124 Star Classic CD ROM" with a part number P-2700-124-099.

WOuld this be the manual of choice for a 1995 E320 wagon?

Thanks!

That's the same part # as my CD manual, not sure if you can find it cheaper elsewhere. I paid over $100 Cdn at the dealer in 2002.

Thanks Kyle. I got Volvo and Mitsubishi manuals for less on Ebay but for MB I have seen nothing of quality. I got a $10 CD for MB there and it is a joke. For MB has the best price on their own manual... just wanted to make sure that is the right one (shop manual) before I send them $65. I love this car but it is somewhat of a money vacuum.

All the best

Ok, I went looking at the MB USA Classics section again, and noticed that the listings for the 300SD lists two paper manuals, not CD's.
Last time I looked, about 6 months ago, there were no listings for the 300SD, so I assumed that they had discontinued that manual.

They are listed for $30 each, so is this indicating that they are actually selling the paper copy again, or just that the media type is mis-marked?

When I checked the MBUSA site for mauals, it asked for the chassis number (which I only know as a 123) and for the engine number. Where would I look to find thises numbers? Is it part of the VIN or something like that?
