I have had my car into Landi German Auto Repair in
Parker, Colorado twice, (phone 303-841-9558). Both times,
I was very pleased. David Sugar fixed my steering trouble
that was overlooked by another shop in town. He performed
a thorough 4 wheel alignment and explained the process and
the difficulty in doing this job well. No complaints here.
During the second visit, he replaced my timing chain rails.
Shop rate is $60/hour currently. I had him check
the rear suspension bushings, (no charge to me), and he
said that they were not in need of repair. My car was in
and out in a timely fashion.
David is very personable and he owns an 87 420SEL himself
which had a blown engine due to timing chain rail failure.
Interesting, (but sad), to look at the damage. He has a
replacement engine installed and it is nearly ready to go.

I have no association with Landi except as a satisfied
customer.

thanks for the recommendation, just dropped off my 87 560SL for some repairs...I hope he's as good as you make him out to be. He sure sounded like he knew Mercedes Benzs...

just wanted to follow up re my previous posting, got the car back on time and it runs marvelously, everything that needed fixing was fixed except for the oil pan gasket which will require 16hrs of labor according to the mechanic so am holding off on that since its just some oil seepage.

he also recommended changing out the timing chain since it had stretched a bit (the car has 118k miles on it, so it's due). but he also said it could wait till I did the oil pan gasket to save on labor costs. He just mentioned to keep it under 4000 rpm which I do with my driving habits anyway.

Both guys came across as very knowledgeable and communicated very well re each item to be fixed.

They'd forgotten to replace the lightbulbs in my instrument cluster (one had burned out), they did not charge me for it though and when I mentioned it to them, they had me bring the car in, did the work while I waited, no charge....

I think I've found myself a reliable mercedes mechanic!

check out Concours Cars in Old Colorado City. It's a Bosch authorized repair facility and they know MB inside out.

Hey Dom -- sorry about your loss -- a good shop is hard to find -- and raises the point that we should, on occassion, put in a plug here in this forum for our favorite shops -- even if we have done it before -- so that they can continue to thrive -- its good for the shop and good for us.

Just an unprompted plug here for my shop at Fort Collins Foreign Car Repair (Bill and Marty). I really don't know that they particularly specialize in Mercedes, but I can say that I've always been pleased with their diagnosis, recommendations, work, etc. on my own daily driver (1988 300 SEL). After a few negative experiences elsewhere, I didn't think I'd ever fully trust a mechanic again. I thought for sure I was facing a full valve job to address major oil burning, but they offered a staged approach to see if perhaps we could resolve the issue with something less expensive... and they were right. I wouldn't have known the difference so I really appreciate their honesty.

Actually, I think Glauser is one of the best places I have ever been for any car repairs, a bit more that the place down the street, but they treat me like a human, and not "another girl who knows nothing"

I lived in Denver for more than 4 years, bought my MBs at Valley Motors on Broadway, tried several shops. Sandor at Star Tech was always the best. After I'd been bringing him my 420SEL for a while, he offered me a deal. If I made an appointment with him, usually on a Tues. or Thursday about 4:00, he would clear me a little space in the shop and have one of his techs extract the oil with the electric machine. Meanwhile I would change the filter (which naturally I bought from him!), and then put in my own oil. No charge. Excellent customer relations.

I left town before he opened his new shop on Santa Fe. What's it like?

I tried Al's Autohaus near I-25 and Evans, and I always felt he had a doctor's attitude, i.e., "I know what's best for your car and you don't." I could never get an estimate out of him, and the work always took longer than it should. (On the other hand, when I brought my 420SEL to him for squeaking brakes, he worked with me, trying different brands of pads until it was right.)

I haven't dealt with the shops you speak of, but I have dealt with allot of shops in my day and never seen anything quite like this! Thank you for the recommendations gentlemen.

I actually got some work done at German Motors while I was driving thru Denver on my way to Minnesota from California. They did a great fix it at a very reasonable price. I want to say the gentleman's name is Mark that helped me out--thanks.

found a great replacement indie shop, Parker Imports, real close to where Landi's used to be, they do great work and know the older MBs.

......in Colorado Springs. Won't take my 300E anywhere else, they're the best.
