After reading the (excellent) 300E page, I was wondering how different the handling is between a 300E and a 300TE. I'd like the extra room, but not if it's going to impair handling too much. Also, how much better are the 124's than the 123's in terms of handling and ride comfort? Am I correct in perceiving the 123 as a bit more reliable? Any opinions appreciated. Thanks.

For the sedan, you can't beat the 124. For the wagon I prefer the 123 because the 124 has a low 'empty can sound' that rumbles all the time while driving. All of them do it, but not all people can hear it. I have great hearing and it bothers me. The late wagons in the 124 were very reliable and peppy with the 104 engine. In fact, the shop I work for might have one for sale.

Thanks for the reply, Benzmac.
I'm looking at a 1993 300E 2.8, 139K miles, $14K. Is this a good deal? Any trouble spots to look for in this model? How is this engine compared to earlier and later models? Does it have the same tendency to need valve guide seals as the earlier models?
