Hi all,

I've had to replace my passenger's front door striker. After about 1 hour of trying to properly align the thing so that the door closes correctly, I gave up. The door shuts, but not completely. It doesn't latch.

Any tips on how to get the new striker into its' proper position?

Really don't want to have to adjust the door and/or hinges if it can be avoided, esp. given all the trouble just the striker has become.

Thanks in advance.

Yikes! Well, it's a little late for this now, but it really would've helped to mark around where the old striker was with a marker or a pencil so you could put it in the exact place. I'd try fooling around with it more and more, I'm sure you'll eventually find the right position for it.

Now I've never done this job before, but do you think opening the door, placing the striker in the latch, then shutting the door would show you the position the striker needs to be placed? It might be worth a try.

I always mark the position of the old one on 3 sides, using masking tape first.

With a flashlight, you can find the approximate alignment of the locating pin to the hole.

The latch mechanism on the door, clean the old grease out and put new grease. Make sure the 2 big phillips screws are tight. If those screws are loose it will never latch right.

This job is tedious but eventually you will find the sweet spot.
