Who sold the the most luxury cars in the USA for 1999? Mercedes-Benz or Lexus? European Car magazine, April 2000, says this about Mercedes-Benz: "1999 marked its first time as #1 among all luxury car makers in the U.S. market (189,000+)." However, Max Power magazine stated the following in their March 2000 issue: "This year Lexus became the Number One selling luxury brand in the U.S."
Anyone know how many cars Lexus sold in the U.S. for 1999? It is hard for me to believe that Lexus sold more than MBZ, because of the import quotas on cars from Japan. Lexus only had 6 separate car classes, (and only 8 models) ie., LS, GS, ES, SC, LX & RX. Mercedes had 9 classes (and 21 models) in 1999 , ie., C, E, S, CL, CLK, SL, SLK, M & AMG.
