How do I make a copy of all posts in a very long thread... so that I can download it as either a HTML file or just to put into a Word file to save?

Regards, Sam Ross // Novato, CA Samuel M. Ross 04-17-2006, 02:09 PM When you are at the "thread" level on the Forum you should see a tab labeled "Thread Tools V ". You click on this tab and then you are given a menu which will include the choice "Show Printable Version". Once you have this version of the thread, you can then click on the browser's "File / Send" options and send the complete thread to anyone you want... or to yourself so you can then forward it later as needed! Thanks for the answer Sam... A window appears with the place to save the file and a box to name the file. It gets saved as an .html file and the browser will allow you to read it in the identical format as you see on the forum. You wouldn't know that you were on your own computer unless you looked in the address bar. Samuel M. Ross 04-21-2006, 01:49 PM Thanks Brian... what you just described I presume was how to use the I.E. Browser and I have done that before. I'm still on the learning curve of the unique features of this forum's particular software... for instance I just learned to immediately use the "Thread Tools / Subscribe to this Thread" so that I will receive an E-mail notice of any subsequent posts on the particular thread. Great feature... and now I know how to unsubscribe. The software used here on this ShopForum is far more sophisticated than those in my [limited] past experience. When a forum gets as large as this, such features are a must for people to be able to find/share information efficiently… but the existence of such large forums also means it becomes more important for its Members to do a better job composing their posts… e.g. the “Title” line. I think these forums here at M-Bshop.Com could be significantly better if our Members worked on this one input [field]. Q1 - Do you know if there has been any threads along this line... explaining such matters as “How best to write a ‘Title’ ”? Q2 – Do you know if the “Search this Forum” [search engine] option searches all of the archives for the specific forum one is on ? Q3 – How does one search across the entire spectrum of forums? Q4 - How can I easily redirect this post to the "Shop Forum Software Help" forum... just use Bill Gates' "block-and-paste" ?? Be patient now... with my many Q(s), for I’m still learning here and plan on being around a while so long as my double bypass holds together !! Sam Q1: If you take a look at the stickies on the first page, there is an excellent writeup by Larry Bible that instructs new members on how to search and how to post. Q2: I'm not exactly sure of the question but the search function can search only the forum that you are currently using or it can search whatever forums that you wish. Just use the main search button at the top of the first page. Q3: The search gives you the opportunity to select the forums that you wish to search. Q4: The moderators can move posts across forums. The users need to copy and paste. Webmaster 04-21-2006, 02:10 PM There are many ways to search... 1) The "Search" at the top of the forum searches all forums unless you use the advanced features. 2) Advanced search allows you to limit your search to a particular forum or forum member. 3) There is also a search function at the top of each thread that allows you to search within that thread. |
