According to the UK Autocar magazine, the new C-Class (C 320 that was tetesd)is superior to its S-Class brother in the wind noise area. Because of its drag coefficient of only 0.26, wind noise is almost nonexistent at 90mph; thus making it quieter than the E-Class or the S-Class.
Overall, the magazine test driver has a lot of positive comments about the new C-Class.
In the handling area, the new model handles more fluently than the old car. The steering is more accurate and has got more feel. Also, according to the magazine, the ride is impressive. It irons out most road surface imperfections with finesse. High speed composure is also exceptional.
However, the magazine noted that the car doors no longer thunk the way you expect from a Mercedes-Benz. I guess time has changed everything at Mercedes. Yet, the new car is heavier due to additional rigidity or metal added to the car to achieve class leading crash saftey. Accrding to Mereceds, the new car should earn top marks or 5 stars rating in the Europe NCAP 40mph offset crash test.
High praise was also given to the car drivetrain. According to the magazine, the 3.2L engine is so smooth that there's virtually no engine noise at idle. It manages to pull the 1490kg/3278lb machine from 0-62mph in 7.8s. Top speed is 152mph/245kmh. Also, the 5 speed tiptronic auto is smooth.
I can't wait to take delivery of my new C-Class in October or November. I placed an order for a C 240 Classic (Exterior Desert Silver / Interior Java) in late March. I do not kow how much it would cost; but according to the sales preson, it should be priced almost at the same level of the old model. I think I should be expected to pay around CDN$44k, includes options (sunroof, twin leather and metallic paint). The C 240 comes with a V6 168hp (170 hp) 2.6L engine with torque output of 177lb/ft. Performance for the C240 should be 9.5 seconds from 0-62mph with top speed of 144mph/232 kmh.
