I am just currious...
I would like to know what accessories were/are available for the SL's. I am in the process of buying a 1975 450 SL. I realize that there may have been accessories available in the european market that were not offered in the states. In particular, I have noted on the hard top that there are notches in the trim pieces on each side. I have been told that those were for a car top carrier/luggage rack...most commonly found on european cars.
Does anyone have any info either in print or on the web that you can provide me with. I love trying to hunt down these older parts wherther they are factory or aftermarket. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

You can try to get a hold on a german book called: das grosse Mercedes-sl-bucH. It is written by Dieter Günther and Johannes Hübner and is published by HEEL under ISBN# 3-89365-218-3.
It is the best book I have ever read about the history of the mercedes SL (W194, W196, W198 --> 300SL(R), W121 --> 190SL, W113 --> 230SL, 250SL, 280SL, W107 SL/SLC, R129 --> 300SL, 500SL), it has 184 pages and a lot of pictures and it contains about all the possible information. There is one picture of a W107 SL with a luggage carrier on the roof...
