Well I have my eye on a smoke silver
1989 560SL.
133K miles, automatic, hard top and soft top.
A/c and cd player.
Looks straight but have not test driven it yet.
$18,500/offer.
Well I am clueless about the SL class except for the fact that they are attractive and service/parts expensive.
Can any body give me some opinions, comments,
spec info. ?(is this a six or eight cylinder?)
This is my first post in this section.
Thank You.

Since this is one of the last W107 SL's (we had R129 SL's in 1989 as well), it has to be fully loaded! The 560 is an 8-cylinder (I don't think it is a 10-cylinder and it is definitely no 6-cylinder).
Although the W107 looks big and long, the space behind the steering wheel is very small. The steering wheel is too close to the windscreen and if the driver is very tall, he would fine the sunshade way to close to his head. Besides that, the car is fun to drive and should be able to get you addicted to topless driving.
I don't know what price difference there is between the 1989 W107 and the 1990 R129 SL, but maybe it is worth considering buying a R129 SL...

The 560 is an 8 cylinder. If you can, I would definately purchase a R 129. The improvements are vast over the 560 and you will be happier in the long run with the R129. The early '90 models can be had for good prices and the owners of these cars usually have kept them up. If you have a good local dealership....go there and put them on the hunt for you. You also should purchase a Starmark warrenty if available...as these cars tend to be quite pricy when things need repair.....Good Luck and keep us posted...:D

Thanks MBenz and Dale, Your info stands true to what I was able to gleam from the archives.
This sexy number is enticing but due
diligence is always the way to go.
I'm in no hurry so I'll make it a habit to
learn more about the R129 type and leave it
to destiny.
Definitely a good idea to go for one with an extended warranty!
Cheers.

I have driven my mothers W107 1986 300SL for a couple of years and holidays and have driven my own R129 1990 300SL-24 for the last 1,5 years... The R129 is so much better as the W107; it is worth the extra $$$, believe me!
The difference between these two models is as the difference between day and night!
Keep us posted & greetingz,
