I just registered to this forum and I'm having problems with the search feature. Initially, things were working fine when I was searching as a guest but then I started getting the following message.
This forum requires that you wait 20 seconds between searches. Please try again in 4 seconds.So, I went ahead and registered and continue to get the same results. I am definately waiting longer than the required 20 seconds.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

So far I have been unable to duplicate this problem.
You might try clearing your cookies and see if that helps.

I've tried clearing cookies - on two different machines - with no success. Any other ideas?
Thanks

That's weird! You seem to be the only one having this problem...
Are you unable to use search at all?
What are you doing immediately prior to searching? Are you clicking "New Posts"? That could be considered a search.
Make sure when you do your search that all words have at least 3 letters in them. Also, single word searches work best.

Example of invalid search words:
* IP
* AT
Is it possible his registration is not complete?

Is it possible his registration is not complete?Registration is complete...otherwise, he wouldn't be able to post.
It may be a firewall problem or something like that.

Sorry for the late response. It seems the problem is only occuring on a specific search - car seats. Whenever I put "car seats" in the search, I get the error. All the other searches seem to work fine.
Maybe the forum is trying to tell me that Mercedes aren't designed for car seats. :D
Thanks for the help.

The flaw is caused by search word "car"... :eek:
"Tombat", I suggest you search by model = 300SD seat, 280 seat, etc. :)

Ahhh...
There's a simple reason for the search error!
The problem is that the word "car" is so common on our forum that you are exceeding the temporary memory on the server when you perform a search containing that word. The server is timing out before all posts are searched.
When you do a search, all 1.2 million posts are searched for that word. Then the results are ranked by relevance and date. After that, a maximum of 500 results is returned.
It's an easy fix. I changed the search function so that it now ignores the word "car".
