I will gladly recommend A Better Wrench in Chapel Hill. I have a 1979 300D non-turbo and they have an MB mechanic to be respected(Richard) with extensive knowledge of the older MB's. Very helpful and Al and the parts department are a pleasure to deal with as well as Richard.

Chapel Hill, NC!! Where else :)
Yeah, my father has been using them for about 10 years. It's a good size operation for an indy Benz shop. They seem to have always done him right and far less than going to the stealer. Lots of diesel experience, too.

Just took my MB 300D 2.5L turbo in to have the transmission assessed. They drove the car and assured me all is fine and no charge. Very helpful and willing to talk me through my questions. Also seem to have very good prices on parts and most things on the shelf.

I stopped by there a while ago to check them out and chat. They seem to know their stuff but like anywhere it seems these days if you get something done, it's going to be expensive... At least they're trustworthy. It's also the only place I could find the blasted parking lights for my car - $8!!! Holy crap...

I would recommend A Better Wrench as well. I lived in NC from Jan. 2000 - April of 2001 and found them to be the best around. I do agree they are fairly expensive but if I was living down there thats the only place I would go.
