I'm having a tough time finding a MB shop that works on the older cars like my '83 380SL. I've had a few recommendations for Austrian Motors on 14th and Northside and I went down there today and scheduled an appt next week for them to give me a pre-purchase inspection (even though I already bought the car).

I noticed a few good reviews and a bad review of them in this forum. Has anyone used them recently that can offer a review?

I send quite afew people to them with the older cars.
I like them because they do good work and the owner Josie is a gem.

They can be a little pricey at times, but you get what you pay for.
They are not a bubble gum, patch up shop and they stand behind their work unlike some other guys out there.

They are good. Just be clear with them that you are well educated on the issue at hand and get a locked-in estimate before getting the work done so you know what to expect. Josie is outstanding, they just look to add-on every nickle and dime that they can. For example: I am getting really tired of the $3.90 'windshield washer fluid' charge that I get hit for every time they change my oil.

They are most likely adding the M/B soap/activator solutions along with straight water like they do at the dealership.
Even that stuff is not cheap.

Can you give me some contact info on Austrian Motors? I want to call them and see what they'd say about rebuilding the trans in my 81 300TD.

The first thing I would do is punch in www.austrianmotors.com and see what pops up.
Hey, it worked....cool.
