I am writing to ask for help with the radio on my 1991 190e. When I got the car it had a cheap aftermarket radio in it that worked only on the left channel. I bought a replacement on the web for the car. The model number of the unit is CM2191. The SN on the radio is AL2191B1132581-B11132581. The security code I got from the local MB dealership is 62662.
Whoever installed the aftermarket radio cut the harness. The radio I bought has the plug on the upper right corner (4 pins set horizontally with the 4th pin slightly offset downward), the back speaker pins (I think) on the lower right corner and the antenna plug (next to the back speaker pins.
When I matched the wires by color to the cut part of the harness, the radio came on, with CODE in the display. I looked at the owners manual and learned that the radio should beep when the 5th number is entered. If it is the correct code the radio will function. If it is the incorrect code, the radio will beep and return to the CODE display.
When I entered the 5 digits for the code, the radio did not beep. I entered a few more numbers and got the same result.
This causes me to wonder if there is a missing plug that I need.
Next to the plug at the top right corner of the radio already described is a row of 3 vertical plug pins, with a single plug pin below that one. I am asking if anyone has a map of the back of this radio that describes the function of the pins so I can troubleshoot why this radio is not working.
One other question. At the bottom edge in the center of the radio is a circular 8 pin female plug. The radio came with the male end of the plug but the wires were cut about 4 inches from the plug. What does this plug go to? I cannot find anything under the dash that would be the receiviing end of this set of wires.
Any help anyone can provide will be appreciated.
