I am trying to run my amp wires through my 1992 300ce, and I bought a high low converter. (http://www.dealtree.net/2ndturn_img.asp?i=DT_68255_1.jpg). The problem is I don't know where to plug it in through the back of my stereo. I first assumed that I can put the plus (gray) and minus (gray/black) wires to right and the plus(white) and minus (white/black) wires to the left on the bottom right. Am I doing it right? Do I even have the right RCA converter?

Are you trying to run an amplifier through the stock headunit or an aftermarket headunit?

I am trying to run the amp using a stock HU.

Ok you kinda got the idea. Only problem is the headunits in some of the W124 were seperate amp/headunit/tuner.

Do you want to run subwoofers or a new set of speakers? The amp for the radio is usually in the trunk. I know thats where it was in my 1993 400E, but I cannot verify that on the CE.

If you want to run subs, and the stock HU, run your hi-lo converter off the speakers in the rear shelf. You should see the wires if you stick you head in the trunk, and look up at the speakers.

If you wanna run speakers off this, then you have to run the convertor off the amp.

I am running an amp through my HU for my subwoofer only. I was told in order to be able to connect the RCA cables I must run the Hi low converter through my factory HU. I am only installing an amplifier for my sub.

In your car, the radio is broken up into seperate component, much like a home system.

Theres the headunit which is like a reciever that control the other components.

There is an amplifier thats seperate that produces the power for the speakers, and the reciever give it the information it need to run and make sound.

The tuner is also seperate, and the headunit controls that as well.

What you need to do is either run the hi low convertor off you back speakers, or pull apart the trunk lining, and connect the convertor to the amp. The headunit itself does not produce the power to drive the speakers, its an acutaly seperate physical entity.

Okay. In order to run it off my speakers do I tape into the wire on simply attach it where the wire connects to the speaker. Since my converter has four wires, plus and minus for left and right do I continue that concept by connecting left to left and right to right. Sorry if i sound stupid but I am a new to all this and I dont want to ruin the car.

You got it. You can hook it up to where the wire connects to the speaker, and you should be good. Personally I could splice the convertor into the wiring instead of just hooking it up to the terminals.


But, you should get sound to you sub, so you should be set.

Alright. So one last overview. I have my power and lead wires going through my car. I tap the converter into both the rear speakers. I plug one end of RCA into converter and the other into amp. Then plug my sub to amp, and the power and ground. One last question, Where does the remote lead wire go?

The remote wire needs to go to the trigger wire on you power antenna.

Now I feel like a big newb. Sorry but there are four wires going into the power unit. There are multiple wires for the antenna. Or maybe there is one but it is mixed in with others. Because when I pulled the plug out my antenna motor powered off. So I am assuming I have to find the right wire or just tape into any one wire?

You have to hook it up to the right one, otherwise kabloom....

Ok, is there a blue wire going to the antenna?

When I unplug the power I hear the antenna (i think) powering off. Now there is a grey/blue wire their. Here is a diagram,

Hook the remote wire into the ignition 12v wire. It says its the black wire on the diagram on the page in your last post.

No, nothing should happen to your car. Maybe a popped fuse, but thats it. Ive crossed many many wires in the few years I have been tinkering with car stereos, and usually a quick fuse is the fix.
