The rear speaker on the passenger side is blown and kills an otherwise good system. I've got an alpine deck and alpine speakers up front and I'm working on replacing the rear shelf speaker, but I don't know what to replace it with.

I was very happy w/ the sound quality before the speaker blew so I wouldn't mind replacing it w/ an OEM speaker if anyone has one.

I went to a popular local car audio shop and they recommended a 5" alpine speaker to go in its place, but I believe that the OEM speaker was a mid-driver, and would therefore produce better bass than an average alpine would.

I am a junkie when it comes to sound quality so I want to make sure I do it right. What should I do?

What year is your 300E?

I believe that there was a change in the sound system perhaps beginning in 1990 or 1991.

The newer system has a different speaker set up.

I noticed those speakers are 4ohm. Aren't the radios in MB's 2 ohm? Or did they change that?

I am looking for an amplifier for a 1995 W124 E320. I had a rear speaker catch fire the other day. All I can figure out is that the speaker was getting straight DC and just got hot enough to burn. I equated this to a bad amplifier input. So I measures the voltage at the speaker connector and found that it was something like 10.36v. I'm not sure if I was seeing the peaks of a wave or there actually is DC going to the speaker... I don't just want to throw another set of speakers in it and have them go up in flames... anyone had any experience with the OEM amplifer going bad?

THe original problem came when I found a direct replacement deck, upon installation I had not passenger side speakers. but I ran it that way for the time being, then yesterday there was a ball of fire in my back window!!

Anyone have any ideas?
