View Full Version : Timing advance for Biodiesel.
Knightrider966 04-09-2008, 11:55 AM For those running Biodiesel and wanting better performance, I tried advancing the IP timing by 2* to 3* to take advantage of utilising all the energy that biodiesel has to offer and to offset the slight power loss that is normally associated with Biodiesel. So far I'm pleased with the results at 26* and my emissions actually came out a little less!
ForcedInduction 04-09-2008, 02:59 PM 26* isn't that much. Others have had good results advancing to 28*.
Cervan 04-26-2008, 07:22 AM lol i was at 30 man, that thing knocked, but i could get it sideways in second. (Didnt do that for very long, would have surely cracked the ring seats.
joey.dale 05-04-2008, 04:37 PM What happens if I set it at 26 then have to fill up with dino?
ForcedInduction 05-04-2008, 05:51 PM It will run even better.
Monomer 05-04-2008, 09:57 PM What should I adjust my 602 to?
Knightrider966 05-04-2008, 10:01 PM What should I adjust my 602 to? I wouldn't go any further than 3* BTDC at the max!

My next question would be howto properly set this, but the head needs work so I wount get into it for awhile....
It's gonna be a tuner by the time I'm done with it...
bobodaclown 05-08-2008, 10:00 AM Won't that increase EGT? Should you have an EGT probe to monitor tempatures?

EGT pyrometer will be installed, along with a 2bar pressure gage and a more accurate oil pressure gage.
freesoul 10-06-2008, 02:19 PM I have a 1995 E300d non-turbo I run on B100. Is there anything else I need to be concerned about with advancing the timing? What is a conservative increase?
GREASY_BEAST 10-06-2008, 10:55 PM Nothing other than stock is conservative. You could probably set it to 26* with no worries.
DubMutant 10-18-2008, 12:07 AM write up on procedure?
how is everyone getting their crank at 28*?
I keep missing the mark, must have rotated ten full cycles trying to line them up.
GREASY_BEAST 11-04-2008, 09:01 PM if you put a long pipe on the end of your ratchet you can get a finer degree of control
there's no room though. Did you take your fan and radiator shroud out?
or are you on the p/s nut?
GREASY_BEAST 11-04-2008, 09:58 PM Put the car on ramps or jackstands, or, if you prefer, remove the fan and shroud. Once you do the fan/shroud enough times, it becomes a 15 minute affair. Its nice to do it with no fan there because you can look directly at the mark (no helper required). Use a 10mm open-end on the fan bolts. I prefer to do it without removing the fan, provided someone is there to assist, because its less work to drive the car up on something or jack it up than it is to remove the fan. If you are doing this solo, by all means, get the fan out of the way.
GREASY_BEAST 11-04-2008, 10:00 PM Also make sure your cam lobes are pointing the right directions (that is, make sure you are on the correct side of the circle so you aren't 180* out of time... I guess without removing the IP, this won't matter, but the easy way to make sure is to just look at the cam through the oil hole in the valve cover.
BioDieseLandon 11-09-2008, 05:21 PM what do you have to do to advance the IP? are there marks you go by or what?
