Lets assume they consume the same amount of fuel in money, which one would you take? The w126 500sel or your diesel? Or my 1992 190D 2.5 turbo 5sp?

I don't think this thread belongs in this subforum, but that said... I'll trade you my SEL for your 190D :D.

I'd be BLOWING down I-95 in that V-8 W126 TANK.

(Unless you can get me a 605.XXX to drop into the W124)

My question was performance oriented and wanted the opinion of a performance oriented diesel owner :D.

but that said... I'll trade you my SEL for your 190D :D.

Is it running good :D?

Burns same fuel rate (MPG SAME)?

Nope. I live in Albania, South Europe and it's common over here to convert a petrol car to lpg (liquid petroleum gas). LPG is 2.46 times cheaper than petrol and diesel over here. So the 500 sel will have to have 2.46times worse mileage than my car to consume the same amount of money in fuel.

I, personally can't stand the lack of performance with mb diesels...there's just nothing like a big Mercedes with a V8.

there is no comparison - oil burners just don't measure up

my 300sd isnt that bad compared to my friends 420sel

and uses almost half as much fuel.

They DO measure up.

The 500 would still be faster even if you got the diesel up to 250hp because of the diesel's turbo lag.

I've heard it eats diesel fuel just like an equivalent gasser too, at maximum velocity.

I know where I can get the s420 cdi, I just need to find where I can get the odd 80.000 euros or so.

I have read that in Albania there are, especially in Tirana, more Mercedes Benz cars per capita than anyplace else in Europe.

And that most of them have been stolen, (especially from Germany).

I wouldn't be surprised if both of them are true :D.

Mercedeses are quite ordinary cars here, as are diesels.

German emission controls makes it hard to keep them and additionally clever people are paying good prices for them to export.
Even the yards are cleared up so it is at least good to know that the old Benzes get a second life.

I have to be conscious of which car is being driven. It wasn't hard to lay some rubber in the 500SE after driving the diesels all week.

MB would have huge sales figures if they were to sell the E420 CDI over here. I know I'd be happy to bury myself in debt for one!

Right now with 10% ethanol in fuel its not a good idea to buy any gasser mercedes, i know some one has a dodge charger that puts 10% ethanol every day and now he has fuel leak at the lines and injectores it cost him $500 to just repair, JUST IMAGINE just to repair a fuel leak on a benz, its going to be COSTY $$$$!!!!
