It shouldn't be too hard to make up a simple cross reference guide for what transmissions fit what.

A good chunk of people in the tuning forum either already have or want a manual. And those that have a manual..well seem to want a five speed :D

So far I've got it down to:

OM617.x / 722.118 and if I'm not mistaken 711.x / 717.x and GL275?

Confusing, however. This (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4G-TRONIC) article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Daimler_AG_transmissions) lists the 4G-tronic 722.x transmission as being used all the way up to the W210/OM606? I thought they were incompatable. And very different technologies.
