Finally removed and prepped bumpers on my 94 E500. I underestimated the amount of effort required to strip down to the plastic (urethane?) I ended up with some deeper scratches from the coarser grit paper--wet sanding with finer grit would take a really looooooong time to get the scratches out. Can anyone recommend a high build primer?????? Any other suggestions????? I'm planning a PPG base/clear finish.

What about some light sanding with an intermediate grit paper? At least it would reduce the depth of the scratches.

If the scratches are that deep, you could use Glazing & Spot Putty (http://www.amazon.com/Bondo-907-4-5OZ-Glazin-Putty/dp/B0002JM8PY/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1216823148&sr=8-1).

Ended up using a PPG high build flexible primer. (ppg product number SX1044) After application and sanding, I used the Bondo spot glaze to fill pin holes and scratches. Applied PPG deltron 2000 base and JC630 polyurethane clear. I would include a picture or two, but I had trouble getting them uploaded. Probably because the file size is to big.

My 0.02 of experience: higher build stuff seems to crack more over time. It's also more difficult to get flat+even. I'd use as little of it as possible, even filling deep scratches with putty in a tube (like, really thick paint) designed for this.
