Hey ya'll.
Decided to post this here before I put it up on eBay. It's a 79' 450SL with 28,xxx original miles. The original owner bought it new, and let it sit for a few years more as a show-piece, than anything else. He finally decided to start driving it about 8 years ago. At this time, he had Mercedes take out the original motor (as after that much time sitting up, the motor was pretty much worthless) and replace it with a completely new, but original spec motor and tranny. He drove it for awhile and then contracted cancer, so he was forced to sit it up again. His son drove it for a little while afterwards and I purchased it from him. The paint appears to be original but it has one small rust bubble (about the size of a dime on the front passeger fender. I just had the front seats reapholstered with OEM Mercedes red leather. The rear seats were in such excellent condition that I didn't bother recovering them. The laquer on the wood on the center console surrounding the shifter is cracking and flaking, but the wood itself is still good, so a simple sanding of the old laquer and reapplying will bring it back to new look. The upper dash is starting to fade and has a few cracks in it, and should either be covered or replaced. The heater core also needs to be replaced. Other than that the car is beautiful. The black canvas top is the original, but looks as if it was just installed. The car also has the original hardtop, but I just didn't feel like hassling with it for the pictures. Asking price is $18,500, but any reasonable offer will be considered. If you have any other questions, feel free to email me at bookip@cox.net
