I'm still looking for the best place to buy MBZ rims. I want to have the MBZ logo on the rims. I particularly like the 1987+ W126 flat plate look in chrome. A local junk yard has some used ones for $100 each. Is it safe to install used rims like this? Also, I've heard people say chromed rims are weaker? Is it true? I have also seen OEM look-a-likes on the web, particulary by adsitco.com and was wodnering has anyone tried them? Does anyone have any recommendations on where to buy?

You could try http://www.bekkers.com or http://www.tirerack.com (or just click the tirerack graphic at the top of this page)... I know that tirerack offers look-alike wheels for use with snow tires. Also, once you buy something from them they send you a catalog at least twice a year which has some interesting info about upcoming sales, tires, wheels, rallying, etc.

I read somewhere that chrome wheels are about 30% weaker than non-chromed wheels and that they are more prone to air leakage (around the bead seal?) over time. I could see where pitted chrome, as on parts of my SD's bumper, could get ugly.

I bought 86-on W126 Mille Miglia replica wheels from Tire Rack for my '86 300SDL. They look very close to the originals, and I doubt anybody will even notice they are not originals, but if you sweat the details try to fing used originals in excellent shape. Greatest disappointment is the wheel bolt area. The holes are bigger than the original and the bolts are chrome instead of the original silver. I also bought the 83 style Ronal replica wheels from Eurotire for my 240D. Now those ones look even better than the originals.
