Anyone had any experience with Timevalve good or bad?

I'm looking for a new muffler for my 190sl. I've already put in a request at PartsShop.

Thanks,
Eric

I've got the same question. I've got two projects that they might be good for: down-tubes without precats for a 16V and a pipe to replace the resonator on a 500E. TV says they can do both. I would really be curious of others experience with them.

I've used the Timevalve stainless exhaust system on my 190 SL. Its been in service for 15 yrs and more than 200,000 miles. The system is in perfect condition with no rust anywhere. I'd certainly recommend it. The unit is quiet and air flow through is excellent.

I installed full systems from header to tail on both my '65 W111/M129 250SE/C coupe and my '70 W114/M114 250/8 sedan. Both fit well, very minor fitting adjustment needed on the 250SE's, but both remain shiny and tight after about 15 years. Both of these, of course, were originally non-catalyst systems, as well. The 250's has a slightly harsh "rap" in its note, but is a very healthy sound and very powerful. Both systems "breathe" beautifully, with little restriction noted.
I heartily endorse their longevity!

I have a full custom Timevalve exhaust on the 6.3. Not only is is beautiful, but it sounds amazing, going on 6 years now with nary a blemish.. I have dealt with this guy quite a few times and he has been very good to me.

I highly recommend him!

Well hopefully he's made his decision by now, 6 years later.

I just don't like bumping topics with useless posts. Maybe it's not "Useless" in that he's happy with his timevalve, but I'm sure completely useless to the original poster.

Oh I don't know. 1. The guy's only got 10 posts (right now at least) - be nice.

2. Folk around here are always preaching that everyone should use the search function. If you do that, it's perfectly reasonable to put the answer to the question posed in a thread.

That being said, I'm a little surprised that a thread doesn't autolock after a couple years.

Okay, you oh-so-experienced guys - when a newbie comes along and tries to enter in while learning his way around, but isn't so very sophisticated as the old-timersl, as to timing of original posts, etc - do you traditionally feel compelled to come up with sarcastic comment posts?
Do you feel REALLY smart and good about yourselves, now?
Pathetic!
I had thought this was a forum for lovers of old Benz's, a standing source of information available for searching...Silly Me!

One is reminded of the famous Marx quote (paraphrased)
"Gentlemen,
Please accept my resignation. I do not care to be a member of a club that would have me(you) as a member"

I look forward to a witty response.

I'm just a devil's advocate. Pay no attention to me. Except when I'm giving advice, that is. :D

And, the "Marx quote"... is that the brothers or Karl?

Okay - p'raps I wuz being a mite oversensitive, as well -
(1) As I said, newbie still learning way around - but appreciative of the good advice and helpful hints that have been and continue to be posted -
(2) would appreciate a knowledgeable "steer" to the appropriate place(s) to invite attention to available used 70-79 W114 and W123 parts as I dismantle some parts cars, besides or in addition to eBay.
Thanks all,
Stan

BTW,

I've had good luck with Timevalve systems except for on a 16 valve 190E where we had a problem with the welds cracking more than once. Called them and complained and they sent a new piece no questions asked.

stan and aaron, thnx for the info/opinions. for some reason I had it in my head that some folks around here had problems with timevalve and I am seriously in need of a rear muffler for my 108 4.5 -- No one has them available. Am contemplating just doin' the whole system in 403 and be done with it... course, that's about $800 in parts:eek:

I used to buy 8 operable cars for that (in 1975)

Did you try the Parts Section (http://www.mercedesshop.com/shopforum/forumdisplay.php?f=8) of this forum? Ask there. There are MANY owners of vehicles with spare parts (such as myself).

Tomguy, thanks for the steer - as I said, still feeling my way around and want to make sure I play by the local course rules, especially with respect to offering items for sale, as I dispose of the 250SE/C's, 300SE/C, 250/8 and 280 and 240D...would much rather offer them in a knowledgeable enthusiasts' forum than have to deal with the hoi polloi sometimes brought in off eBay.

kpb - Actually, I'm not up to speed on Timevalve's current status - all I know is that in (salty-air) Tidewater Virginia, my 250/8 is rusting away - given a few more years, all I'll have to do is brush the pile of iron oxide flakes off my rebuilt engine and the shiny exhaust system and transfer them to my 250C...

while on the subject of hanging exhausts - my Benz parts guru recommends always using the reinforced 560 hangers - "cost more, but do it once" department...

I don't get it. The ONLY part of my exhaust system showing any rust is the header pipe I put on about 3 years ago. The rest of it is still rust-free and, from what I always thought, original. I guess the first owner put a stainless system on at the time he purchased it?

Same, used them on a 280E, 250C, and 280SL 107, all worked out very well. But he did not get the exhaust tips quite right on the 107.
