I have a black C220 - Quite a few little chips in the hood. Will having it re-painted by a quality body shop hurt the value of the car in any way???? Any opinions?

When it comes time to trade or sell it prospective buyers or dealers will be able to tell it has been repainted. If they see repaint they will assume (or accuse) the car of being hit. Plus the factory paint quality is very difficult for most bodyshops to reproduce. If you can get a professional to work on the chips that would not hurt the value nearly as much. If you want to try and deal with them yourself you will need the factory touch-up paint kit, two tiny medical syringes(diabetic models work well), and some patience. After cleaning all the wax and stuff off the area being touched fill the chip a small bit(don't glob the paint on there). By doing the fill in many small steps it is much more transparent than a big bulbous amount put on at once. Be sure to use both the base and clearcoats(separate syringes) so it matches your factory base/clear finish. You can repaint a million times, it is only original once. Try every option before repainting. Best of luck...Lee |
