View Full Version : 16V tyres

At this moment I own a '86 190E 16V with 205/50/16 Pirelli P7000 tyres. My previous 16V had the original rims with 205/55/15 Michelin tyres. That was 3 years ago. Speaking of comfort, the 16" Pirelli's are a real pain. Now I'm considering trading the 16" rims for the original 15" rims, which are hard to get. Will the change make any sense? The car is very low, but not lower than my previous car.
Thanks for this great site, and thanks in advance for any advice.

Rim diameter will make no difference on ride height. You always should stay with the same rolling radius. If OEM is 195/65/15 then a Plus 1 fittment would be 205/55/16 or 225/50/16. Plus 2 would be 225/45/17.

Give Tirerack a buzz, they have a detailed database regarding what sizes will fit on what cars.

My personal advice would be to keep the 16" rims but buy a softer riding tire. Try a Michelin MXV4, Michelin MXM, XGT H/V/Z4, or something similar.

Hope this helps...Lee
