Hello all thx for the help in advance. Well I got a 280se just a few months ago and $2000 later in repairs (ugh I know ...get use to it!!) I have 2 major problems other than the car rusting away.

The 1st prob is how do I get the cluster panel out ie gas fuel and clock!
I have the MB tools to pull it (the service manual is on its way) I stuck them in and pulled like hell but nothing budged.

Now the fuel gauge is going from full to empty on every other bump. I must have hooked somthing. PS i cracked the dash too. Im a ford guy this is my first Benz Wow what a change!

Second problem the antenna. It is an after market and I want to put in what should be there! is it manual or automatic? How do i install it, if it is an automatic one?

I found a 73 i think 230 in a junk yard that antenna was perfect had letter h on the base and another letter on the top of the black plastic antenna tip. I wanted to pull it out and install it on the 280se. Problem is, I could not figure out how to get it out of the 230 and into my 280. The stereo was stolen out of it before i got it so I want to do it right the first time.

I have read your pages and I think they are great.

Hope you can help and reply quick. The 230 antenna may be gone soon thx again!

Lance

Ps we started selling PC's on the net so we could get enough cash to fix up our 3 classic cars! I think the Benz will force me to work till I am at least 100 :)

To start with there is a white plastic nut that secures the instrument cluster.
Most of the time the fuel gauge problem is the sending unit wiring broken at the sending unit(under trunk mat).
The car came with an electric antenna, go for a new aftermarket unit.

Hello First I wanted to say sorry for such a long delay in my reply..

I found it.. It helps to have a bright light to see the nut. (and very small hands to get to it) It came out very easy after removing the nut.

We are in the process of redoing the wood boy thats a lotta work. I will search to see if i can find hints on the best way to do it. if I come up empty Ill post a new thread!

Thanks again.. PS We took 3rd place in our car club with the benz. Now we want 1st!

Thanks again! Lance
