View Full Version : St. Louis, MO
ML320Truck 09-19-2002, 10:32 PM OK, I searched but none showed up. There are only two dealers in St. Louis, MO area. Tristar and Plaza Motor. Which service department is better?
For me, I used Plaza once for a windshield washer tank warranty replacement and had no complains. Anyone has some strong opinion toward either one?
Any good independents on record?
Any other good shops close by the area?
Hope this post can serve as a record to benefit owners in this area.

MikePiles 05-01-2003, 11:49 PM The gentleman I bought mt 300SD from recommended this guy.
Harold's Star Service
10770 Trenton Ave
Saint Louis, MO 63132-1026
Phone:(314)426-2634
I have not tried them but Erwin F Schwarz LTD has been highly recommended to me by serveral people. They are at the corner of Brentwood and Manchester.
I am very pleased with the service I have received at Tri-Star.
Bama1 05-18-2003, 11:03 AM I've been looking for three years and there are not many good MB specialty shops around (or I just have'nt asked the right people)!
Tri-star has been good for servicing and parts and are nice folks to deal with. However I have not had anything more major than valve adjustment that required their repair.
Swartz is 'sposed to be good but maybe a little pricey...I do not know personally but will be visiting them soon to get quotes and schedule for a timing chain replacement. So I'll let you know what I discover!
Also, a co-worker suggested a place in Kirkwood area named BLW something...I can't find his note but I'lll ask again this week. They do Mercedes, Bentley and, Jags, so not too sure about their dedication to MB, although his 1970 everyday driver is a great testimony to their work.
kashbaugh 08-23-2003, 06:33 PM Hello all!
Don't know how many of you are still around, but I was wondering if anyone had any further thoughts on this thread? I am probably going to St. Louis to buy a 300TD soon and would like to find a shop that could give it an inspection BEFORE I spend the time and money to fly up to check the car out.
I figure that maybe if I pay the shop they will be "loyal" to me on the inspection. I don't suspect anything, but want to do what I can to minimize my risk.
Thanks,
kma
Larry Larson 03-02-2004, 01:41 PM I highly recommend Brian Johnston. His # is (314) 991-2277. He works in a shop in St. Louis and also out of his home in Union Mo. He is outstanding, ASE Master certified and very reasonalble. Larry
ML320Truck 07-20-2005, 12:51 AM Over the past 4 years, I have all of my warranty work done at Tri Star, except once at Plaza. Since everything is paid by MB, I actually don’t know their price quote (can be very expensive, SA once suggested replacing front pads for $800), but their job exceeds all of my expectations. They also gave me a free car wash, inside cleaning and if I need a loaner, a free Taurus (that’s all they have for loaners) every time I went there for service. I would highly recommend Tri Star over Plaza if you need dealer service in St. Louis area.
On another note, I have had great experience with Honea Auto Body on Manchester.
vlayton 06-04-2006, 02:34 PM Hi Everyone-
There is a resource list for most of the St. Louis area MB specialists.
Find it at:
www.gatewaymbca.org
Click on the "STL Service Guide" button.
It does get updated from time to time if you'd like to bookmark the site.
Hope this helps!
oldnavy 08-19-2006, 07:40 PM I have a friend, Brian Johnston, that works for Plaza (MB side)and is an excellent tech, tell him OldNavy recommended him.
Lyle Hardin 10-05-2006, 03:31 PM I use Steve at Sport Port on South Grand in St. Louis. 314-351-8643. Half the cost of the dealers and I've had good luck with him. The place looks like a junk yard but he really knows his Mercedes. Especially the older ones. Stop at Merb's candies on the way!
