View Full Version : Spring New England GTG? Holson Adi 02-18-2003, 07:40 PM Hey everybody, look here please :) http://www.mercedesshop.com/shopforum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=57582 Spo123 02-18-2003, 08:21 PM Holson, Count me in. This time I will most likelyactually WASH and possibly e ven wax my old black bomber. ;) ... By the way, how did you make out with that loose bracket on your airfilter assembly. Another FINE place togather is in Ct. This is ROCKY NECK STATE PARK. This park is much smaller than Hammonnassett. It islocated just off I95, however, rocky neck is further east than hammonnassett. Best wishes always, spo:) Now I am off to the municipal garage torescue my oilburner. The WARMER weather conditions these days have allowed the old beast it LIGHT UP without the extension cord! rwthomas1 02-18-2003, 09:39 PM Count me in!! Just tell me where and when!! RT KylePavao 02-18-2003, 10:18 PM Now that I have my licensce I am in. How about something a bit closer to us in Massachusetts/Rhode Island? Horseneck Beach State Reservation Wildlife Res/ Beach on the Atlantic Ocean. Lots of cool stuff, including submarine towers. Located in Wesport Massachusetts, much closer for all of us up North. http://www.state.ma.us/dem/parks/hbch.htm Whatcha think? Many massive parking lots that are not full...do not know if they are acessible in Spring... I can check. I checked with my father and other locals....the extremely large parking areas are surrounded by sand dunes, and have tons of room, and are acessible to public in the spring. What you guys think? Definately a semi-middle eastern flair. Holson Adi 02-19-2003, 12:54 AM I'm down for Horseneck Beach What about March 8th or March 15th? Saturday? or should we find a later date (like in April)? If April, what about April 19th? btw spo, I just duct taped the loose pipe in the air cleaner assembly and so far it's holding up perfectly. I hope people don't know that I still have a huge roll of duct tape in my trunk ;) I might find my 300CD's trunk pryed open :D 123c 02-19-2003, 12:59 AM We are planning on having a WA GTG on March 8th or 15th. It would be neat if you guys in New England have on one the same day as we have ours in WA. tomparsi 02-19-2003, 10:08 AM how about later in March? So hopefully all the snow is melted by then. KylePavao 02-19-2003, 10:21 AM Going down today to see if the parking areas are indeed acessible. Also, if they are not...another idea would be Colt State Park in Bristol RI. Situated near the ocean, picnic areas, pagodas. Very cool. May be a cost to get in. I am gonna check Horseneck out today and see whats up. For me, I vote to go in early march. The eighth or fifteenth is fine. 84300DT 02-19-2003, 04:55 PM you guys know i'm in;) Triffin 02-19-2003, 05:35 PM Not to nit pic .. But if this happens before March 20th we'll have to call it the "Late Winter GTG" rather than the "Spring GTG" .. either way .. just decide where and when :p :p Jim in Ct .. JimSmith 02-19-2003, 10:06 PM I'm in as long as I am in the area. And I second Triffin (Jim)'s note that if it happens before the equinox it is technically not a Spring event. If we are near the water, it is common sense to predict the weather is going to be chilly. We have had a few chilly events, and while that does not bother me a lot, I don't know if I would plan one in cold weather again, on purpose without a reason. Jim Holson Adi 02-20-2003, 01:37 AM What about March 23rd or 30th instead then? ;) Later days.. should be a lil bit warmer.. and we can gather more people to go :) I really wonder why no non-diesel drivers have responded so far... I'm gonna try to get some of my friends to come along (one MBZ guy and a BMW guy) Should we do it at Horseneck beach then? I don't mind driving to Hammonassett again to be honest. any updates Kyle? turbodiesel 02-20-2003, 03:00 AM You know i'll be there with a dirty car ;) KylePavao 02-20-2003, 09:27 AM It was still snowed in and I didn't have a chance to check if it was open but most likely it is. I will check again! From what I've heard its open access in off season. The reason I suggested Horseneck is for all those people that are a bit more up north. Its pretty centrally located in between Massachusetts, Conneticut, Rhode Island etc. Its definately a nice place, and will not be too cold because the parking areas are flanked by sand dunes. Lots of cool places to eat too. I will definately go there today and check as I have to apply for a job in the area. KylePavao 02-20-2003, 11:34 AM You guys dun mind if I get a couple of volvo friends to come? KylePavao 02-20-2003, 01:29 PM Well I checked it out just 5 min ago. All the parking lots are closed for the season except for one small one. I have one other idea: 12 Mile Drive in Newport Rhode Island. About 300 feet from the Atlantic Ocean, Mansions near by, much shopping. Very cool place. Since it isn't exactly the easiest place in the world to find, I think we should have people convoy up at an actual central address or parking lot and then "cruise" from there to our destination. It will be much easier, and much more fun. I might check out Twelve Mile Drive later today. It is not a state park, so it will not be closed, and it is very close to the water. What do you guys think of the alternate location? Holson Adi 02-20-2003, 05:06 PM I'm down for anything... anything around here is good. Somewhere scenic is obviously the best. I mean .. it complements these beautiful machines :D and... I like the convoy idea... would be great fun. I'm gonna get my friend to come with me with a video camera. I don't mind anything. We can even have ricers come as long as they don't act up. I'm sure we're mature enough to accept just about anybody! KylePavao 02-20-2003, 06:01 PM Perfect idea... we meet up at Viti Mercedes in Tiverton Rhode Island, the exclusive Mercedes dealer for Rhode Island, and we convoy up from there. It will be very cool and they definately wouldn't car about 10 old MB's using there place as a starting point. It makes it an easy place to go to. http://www.viti.com/ The Dealer From here we convoy to the scenic twelve mile drive in Newport RI...in a massive convoy :D Holson Adi 02-21-2003, 02:08 AM so, what does everybody else think? Suggestions please :D turbodiesel 02-21-2003, 05:49 AM Rhode Island is kinda far for me, but i'll try to make it.. hopefully it will be wamer than our last meet. Let's set a date and time. KylePavao 02-21-2003, 10:07 AM And please guys gimme some suggestions lol. Comments please lol. I am gonna go scope out this place today, se what are the best places for parking. I would think that we meet March 15th, 2003 at Viti Mercedes around 1 PM-1:30 for any long distance guys. So we have a window to wait. Then we proceed to our destination which is conveniently located about 10 miles from Viti. I will get the exact info today. Any other suggestions are welcome. Holson Adi 02-21-2003, 12:02 PM I wonder if RI is too far for the members from CT. However we did drive quite a bit for Hamonassett so just shout out if somebody doesn't agree! I really wanna make this happen again :D can't wait to meet people who are into these cars again :p 84300DT 02-21-2003, 02:42 PM newport convoy sounds good KylePavao 02-21-2003, 05:37 PM If you need directions go to www.viti.com That will be the staging area for our convoy to depart from. JimSmith 02-21-2003, 09:46 PM I will be skiing in Colorado at that time, since it will still technically be Winter and you have to get your time on skis in when there is still some snow. I would love to attend, and driving to Rhode Island is not a problem for me, although guys from NJ will have a bit of a trek. If the date is not set, how about the first week of April? Better chance of more reasonable weather, well, maybe. Around the water it stays pretty cool for quite a while. Viti will probably set us up with coffee and donuts or something if we let them know we are coming. It is not that often you get an unsolicited group of potential buyers, and great advertising for nothing just dropping by. Jim KylePavao 02-21-2003, 10:49 PM Me being a 16 year old "kid" I doubt the people at Viti will trust my credibility that a large group of MB's are coming. Could one of you "adults" contact Viti (info@viti.com) and discuss the get together of MB's at their dealership? Or is that too much to ask? I can do it if you want. Also...The parking area at twelve mile drive is adequate, but not as open and expansive as that at Horseneck. The only reason I would like to do it in March is because it is such a popular toruist area, and that parking would not be guaranteed when it starts warming up. One last idea, maybe we have the actual diesel get together at Viti instead of traveling around. Obviously a great atmosphere, and we can do it at anytime with their autorization... Comments? I am not trying to run the show or anything. In fact, if any of you want to set up meetings at other MB dealerships in the area that'd be fine too. Just the folks at Viti are very friendly, and it's in a pretty scenic area if you want to "cruise" around later. Tiverton has lots of nice beaches etc. Holson Adi 02-23-2003, 02:19 PM How come the 'enthusiasm' is dying. Is it too far north :D I don't mind having it in CT again then maybe members from further down could join us! I also have another thread in Hot Rods but only one person responded. Also about the time. Let's have a vote: Who would rather have it in mid-March? Who would rather have it early in April? I really like the idea of doing it at Viti as long as they don't mind that is. It's free publication for them in some ways. JimSmith 02-23-2003, 05:27 PM Holson, I think the idea of a Rhode Island or Massachusetts get togther near the waterfront is great. Like I said, I can't be there in March, so my vote is for April. Viti has a nice facility and I used to take my 190E 2.3-16 (Peter's car now but I very easily fall back into calling it my car still) there for service. Good service, nice place, and I think they should welcome a sudden influx of Diesel enthusiasts when Diesels are coming back all of the sudden. Keep the thread alive, and lets schedule another gathering. Jim KylePavao 02-23-2003, 06:58 PM Maybe we have the ACTUAL get together at the Viti facilities...use their space...great surroundings, no unpredicted crowds etc...? Want me to email them? 84300DT 02-24-2003, 12:13 PM ttt jim can u sticky this? michakaveli 02-24-2003, 12:23 PM I still say it's too cold in March.. My$.02 84300DT 02-24-2003, 10:49 PM jim thanks for the sticky. shall we not wait to see what reply kyle gets to the e-mail he sent to the dealer b4 making any decisions? as to date/location? bob Holson Adi 02-25-2003, 03:49 AM Yeah I say we wait. I got an email from two guys who say that they will attend if they are available (in their 500E's :D ) KylePavao 02-25-2003, 04:28 PM Has not replied yet. Maybe they don't take my "@yahoo.com" address seriously. Someone else want to give it a crack? Here is my message if you want to use it, change name etc. Hello! My name is Kyle Pavao. (your used car manager, Michael Mederios knows me, as I know his daughter) I am a Tiverton native and a member of the forum and bulletin board at www.merecedesshop.com This message board harbors a group of Mercedes diesel enthusiasts, who truly enjoy the precision engineering and oustanding reliability of the diesels of yesteryear, all the way up to the recently discontinued E300 Diesel. We were interested if we could use your facilities for a get together of mostly diesel Mercedes automobiles (W115, W123, W124, W201 and newer chassis) as well as some gasoline automobiles for a Mercedes "get together" of sorts at your dealership. Your dealership is the most centrally located dealership for those from Boston, Conneticut, and Rhode Island, as well as those from New Hampshire and Maine. It would be greatly appreciated if you could loan us a bit of your dealership space on a Saturday in either mid March or mid April (you will receive an email soon on the exact date if it is ok) for our so called "get together" It would comprise of ten to twenty cars. Your generosity is greatly appreciated, and this will definately create publicity for the superb reliability of the Mercedes mark, as well as bring in many potential buyers who already love the Mercedes mark. This would be great publicity for the rekindling of the diesel powered Mercedes, as I understand an E320 CDI is coming to the US in 2004-2005. In closing, think you for your time in reading this email. Please respond with your answer. -Kyle Pavao OwnerPavao superb 1983 240D 4 speed manual (323,000 miles!)" Holson Adi 02-26-2003, 07:38 PM Any updates? Why don't you try calling them or faxing it to them? I have a bu.edu email address. Don't know how much more a help that is. Let me know KylePavao 02-27-2003, 06:30 PM I don't have a fax machine Holson....do any of you? If any of you have a fax machine...could you relay my message to Viti? The number is at their website. KylePavao 02-27-2003, 06:31 PM and they still haven't replied to my emails....grr michakaveli 02-27-2003, 06:49 PM I believe I am available this next coming Saturday, March 8th. We don't we structure a GTG possibly at Viti or another place on the Coast of Rhode Island. Then for dinner we can all go to Foxwood's buffet or one of their restaurants? KylePavao 02-27-2003, 07:16 PM We definitely need to structure this! If I could ask you to fax Viti my message, that would be great. I am put on hold when I call them. If one of you could fax Viti with your phone number and my message, we could get a response rather quickly (assuming they answer their faxes better than emails) We need this to work, and I think Viti definitely would want us there. If worse comes to worse I'll call them, althought I think they will doubt the credibility of a 17 yeard old "kid" like myself on organzing a Mercedes get together on the east coast. If you want to use a copy of my message to fax them, pleaaassse do it, and put your name where my name is. We need this to get off the ground. BTW....that "Red Dragon" Restuarant at Foxwoods is awesome :D Holson Adi 02-27-2003, 10:13 PM I can tell you that I'm not better off (I'm just a sophomore in College).... However, I agree with michakaveli. Maybe we can just have a little 'parking-lot' gathering again. I like 8th and 15th because that's spring break and since my Miami plan got cancelled  i'm free... The dinner sounds good! KylePavao 02-28-2003, 07:23 PM I will personally drive to Viti and talk to the manager and hopefully he will take me seriously. After I see what's up at Viti, its my first annual "Winter is almost over" rust proofing/repair session. Ah the joys of inhaling the fumes of the industrial grade acid in my SEM rust mort. Then we use my trusty touch up paint bottle, and Fluid Film on all rust prone areas never hurt anyone. That's a product us northerners need Holson...I'll have to get you a bottle before the GTG. Its amazing. It lubricates like WD40, but according to the US navy is 7900% more effective with controlling corrosion. They use it on drilling platforms, and even in a salt factory where they were replacing chain drives every 4 weeks when using WD40, but when they used this stuff it increased it to 4 months!! It never dries, which makes it awesome for undercoating. Definitely something to get. 84300DT 03-07-2003, 06:05 PM well, the snow is melting ... anything doing yet guys for the 22nd? KylePavao 03-07-2003, 06:09 PM And nothing is up for the 22nd. I'd like something semi local, but suburban. I have a good idea....Colt State Park...overlooking Narraganesset Bay. We can even rent a ceremonial area for 30 dollars a day or 15 bucks for 3 hours! To have an area for all our MB's! I think it's a great idea, and entrance iss free. Please check it out, I think I've finally found the right place. http://www.riparks.com/colt.htm KylePavao 03-07-2003, 06:12 PM Entrance and parking is free as well. KylePavao 03-07-2003, 06:13 PM DATE STATE ACQUIRED: By condemnation on August 3,1965 TOTAL ACREAGE: 464.165 PREVIOUS OWNERS: The Colt Church and Coggeshall families. ORIGIN OF NAME: From Samuel Pomeroy Colt DEDICATION: August 21, 1968 by Governor Chafee It is known that in 1915 Buster Crabbe the famous Tarzan of the movie screen as a youngster played with a former Park Manager, the late Manual Andrade on the old Colt Farm. Buster Crabbe's dad was the first farm superintendent for the Colt family. Today Colt State Park is opened year round and is proud of it's popular open air Chapel by the Sea, ten playfields, six picnic groves with 300 picnic tables available on first come first served basis, a 55 ft. observation tower, rest rooms, public boat ramp, four miles of walking and jogging trails, bicycle and bridle trails. 84300DT 03-07-2003, 06:46 PM that sounds cool but it might be a bit out of the way... alternatively as diesel 924 suggested Riverside park in hartford next to the MB dealer - that would be accessable to more people from NY-NJ/CT/NH/MA - i still think it would be awsome to parade a bunch of classic diesels into the MB dealer on a saturday - stay a bit , maybe buy a couple of spare parts , and then leave...:D and this time we shouldn't bother to ask them .. just do it! anybody? KylePavao 03-07-2003, 07:12 PM But I think Holson, and some of the other "up norther" guys would like something a little bit more local. This would be about the same distance as Viti, except with beautiful scenery, and free Holson Adi 03-07-2003, 08:31 PM I agree, we should just drive in and buy some parts, pen, teddy bear or something :D Hammonassett was nice but it was quite far for me. I enjoyed the drive out but didn't enjoy the drive home (lots of traffic, lots of a$&es on the road, etc.) I still wanna do Cape Cod but I don't know the area too well. I still think driving through the Cape in a parade of MB's would be fun :D 84300DT 03-07-2003, 08:51 PM ok this is not my gig so you guys name the place and time and the blue benz will be there.. :D KylePavao 03-07-2003, 10:14 PM I vote Colt State Park. Holson Adi 03-11-2003, 02:23 AM So what do you guys think? Colt State Park - 22nd? 84300DT 03-12-2003, 08:04 PM ttt looks like we're on for the 22nd :) 84300DT 03-17-2003, 07:11 PM up ttt again - let's bang the drum for some participants - gassers/mogs also welcome!!! michakaveli 03-17-2003, 11:02 PM I've realized that I will be available that afternoon. Maybe I should come to this get-2-gether? I'd be interested in learning about alternative oils and how they work in our diesels.. Anyone interested? michakaveli 03-17-2003, 11:04 PM Who is traveling from the Hartford area? Let's start a chain from Hartford :-) Holson Adi 03-18-2003, 01:03 AM Yeah!! The more the merrier! Gassers are welcome too! Jim's500E 03-18-2003, 05:46 PM I'm coming from Hartford (Manchester) and planning on leaving around 1030-11...where all yous meeting up ? I'm right off Route 384... Holson Adi 03-20-2003, 01:16 PM I'm gonna leave Boston around 11 - just because I'm bad with directions. My friends might come along too in their BMW E46's.. so be nice ;) no BMW SUCKS comments hehehe.. My cell phone number is (617)792-9022 in case anybody gets lost or something. It's gonna be pretty warm but it's supposed to rain later during the day :( so hopefully it won't rain til we leave. turbodiesel 03-20-2003, 04:39 PM It's about 230 miles each way.. Im guessing 3 to 3.5 hours each way. Quite a bit further than the last one.. not sure if I'm coming or not. Triffin 03-20-2003, 06:47 PM << not sure if I'm coming or not. >> Then how am I gonna sell you my car :D :D :D Jim in Ct .. 1996 e300d michakaveli 03-20-2003, 06:54 PM To members from the Hartford area: I will be meeting Triffin and Bob at a small small parking lot right on 95 .. not an exit. It's the "scenic overlook" at Mystic CT .. I will be leaving from Hartford at 11:00am. Who's with me?? Jim's500E?
