Ashman 02-20-2003, 04:13 PM Since We wont be able to do phil's moose lodge, lets schedule a GTG elsewhere.
Any ideas for date/time?
Any Ideas for location?
Reply here with your ideas so we can get this organized.
I think a nice park or beach location with good parking lot would work well. BBQ access is a must as well.
Alon
mark cummins 02-20-2003, 04:26 PM How about the Peterson..then a drive?
BBQ is a MUST:D
placo1 02-21-2003, 02:16 AM I like the Peterson idea or.........
I winery day in Temecula. I've brought it up in the past and I know it will be popular ;):D.
Not all of our members will be able to do wine tasting but everyone can certainly attend a BBQ. There are several parks within minutes of the wineries and one decent sized park near my place. All the parks have tables, grilles and one has more than enough parking space.
I'm thinking sometime in the middle of March on a Saturday or Sunday, whatever works best. Maybe we can carpool to the wineries around 11AM and then go to the park for a BBQ around 1:30PM?
If you like this idea please don't hesitate to add any suggestions.
MikeTangas 02-21-2003, 02:53 AM Chance for a neat photo op of a big long line of MB's coming down/going up the 27% grade of Los Gatos Road. You know which one I mean John (try running it at 45+mph  )
Ashman 02-21-2003, 05:14 AM great ideas. Lets organize it.

You V8 guys! It would be real easy to do it down hill at 45 - just requires a good driver, a reasonably strong death wish, and the ability to ignore the spectacular views and peaceful silence seldom found in SoCal. I might have the ponies in my 6 to do it uphill at 45, but the skill/nerve is another issue we won't explore here - I'd ride with you when you do it, however!
A photo taken from the bottom would look like a string of MBs mounted on the face of Half Dome, surrounded by avocado orchards!!!:D
placo1 02-21-2003, 11:28 AM Mike/John,
Where exactly are you guys referring to? Is it here in Temecula?
Fastlane Phil 02-21-2003, 12:06 PM David Oh suggested Seal Beach
Great place, lots of parking.
We'll bring the BBQers
March 15th was the suggested date
Any takers?

cj750rock 02-21-2003, 12:10 PM I just spoke to Phil (the partsman) about having it at the beach. How nice is it for us So. Cal guys to show off the weather and the beach! I have a 32' toy box that I can tow out there and set it up. Phil will give you more specifics.
Intersted?
Afshin:
The road is NNW of Fallbrook, about midway between Fallbrook and Elsinore, tucked against Camp Pendleton. If you take Clinton Keith road from the freeway west up into the hills, you will come onto a plateau next to the Nature Conservency (Great hiking and scenery as well), and curve left around the conservency on this plateau. All of a sudden the world ends - you come to a steep drop off with spectacular views for 10-20 miles over avacado tree covered hills with ranch houses on most peaks, and a spider web of twisty roads through the valleys and hills. That is Los Gatos road. The roads go through DeLuz (population about 20, one room schoolhouse) and end up on the Pendleton side of Fallbrook, almost by the east gate.
A real nice day trip to try is Temecula to Los Gatos/Nature Conservancy for a leg stretch, (couple miles hike in to the oldest adobe in Riverside county - a remote land grant rancho from the past), down Clinton Keith to Elsinore, out the Ortega to lunch in San Juan Capistrano, then I-5 to Oceanside and back over to Temecula. We start in San Juan and do the route in reverse.
Phil:
A beach BBQ works for us as well! Seal Beach has some decent facilities.
drbrandini 02-21-2003, 12:32 PM Count me in....I can bring some real southern BBQ sauce that you guys will die for.. BTW sunday is the best day for me !! But I can possibly work out a Sat. if need be. :D
Sounds like fun! I can't make it on the 15th, can we do it on the 16th?
cj750rock 02-21-2003, 01:15 PM I can keep that weekend open for now. Here is my toy box we can use.
drbrandini 02-21-2003, 01:32 PM Nice toybox ! :D
MikeTangas 02-21-2003, 01:59 PM Afshin,
From Los Gatos Road (up near the top), on a clear day, one can see the San Diego skyline as well as the some of the surface streets of Carlsbad. One can also watch the beach in Oceanside, even make out people with field glasses. But you gotta know where to look.

Wow...that's cool. So if I were to stand on my roof, you might be able to see me? :D
Fastlane Phil 02-21-2003, 02:06 PM SUNDAY the 16th
I'd love to see everyone there.
partsman
cj750rock 02-21-2003, 02:44 PM Sunday the 16th it is. Phil, where did you want to park? Anyone want to suggest time? The toy box has A/C, generator, bathroom, outside shower, outside speakers, CD player and more. So, anything goes. Just like a house.
It will be fun.
Fastlane Phil 02-21-2003, 02:48 PM I'll go down thi sweek end and pick us a good spot
As for time, 10:00 AM till we're dead?
partsman
cj750rock 02-21-2003, 03:28 PM 10 sounds great. Of course, phil, you and I will be a bit earlier. Like 9ish?
suginami 02-21-2003, 03:34 PM March th 16th.
Barring some unforseen emergency or business trip, I'll be there.
Ashman 02-21-2003, 05:30 PM so should I bring my boat too?
:)
Alon
Fastlane Phil 02-21-2003, 05:40 PM Yes, bring the boat, the bait and the girls. LOL
I may try to get some of that special fettuccini sauce
of mine down there instead of all over the floor board
of my Z28..
I'm looking forward to a great get together. Large turnout.
If we'd of had one more at your place, they'd of had to park down the street.
Later
partsman
Ashman 02-21-2003, 07:19 PM phil ya musta missed the 5 or 6 benzes that were also across the street parked. :)
Alon
drbrandini 02-21-2003, 11:11 PM Where exactly is Seal Beach?
Cannoli 02-22-2003, 02:40 AM It's the most northern beach in Orange County, just north of Huntington Beach, just south of Naples (district of Long Beach). Easy access from the I-405 / SR-22 and of course, Pacific Coast Highway ... PCH ... HIGHWAY 1!
Well, so much for the geo lesson, count me in on Sunday, 16 March. What can I do to help ... food, drinks, photos, etc.?
Calling all San Diego/south Orange County members...(and the three Temecula members that I know :))
JCE and I are planning a pre-GTG to "meet for coffee" and then caravan up to the Seal Beach GTG. We could meet at a Starbucks (or similar) somewhere between San Clemente and El Toro around 8:30a.
San Diego members...we can start the caravan earlier in Carlsbad at the Park & Ride at La Costa Avenue/I5.
Wha'dya say?
placo1 02-23-2003, 03:45 PM Count me in, I'll never turn down a cup of coffee with good friends.
Hmmmm I get to drive the Ortega again!:D
There's a great coffee house right around the end of Ortega Hwy which would be a great place to meet. We can then caravan up the PCH to our destination.:)
Does that sound good?
Rayson 02-23-2003, 07:56 PM My wife and I would really like to make this one but will depend on what is going on then. Seal Beach will be a great place and its only about 30 minutes or less from my house. If you have never been the ladies will love the Main Street area. Hope to be able to make it.
drbrandini 02-23-2003, 08:03 PM Glen,
You know I'm in !!:D
Hey Brandon,
Great! As more people respond we'll firm up plans. Did you have a chance to explore more of San Diego?
The Godfather 02-24-2003, 01:49 AM How about Santa Barbara or San Luis Obispo? :)

Well...I hope it wasn't all my fault but...I mentioned that I could not make it on the 15th and suggested the 16th. Sorry :(
cj750rock 02-24-2003, 12:08 PM The partsman called and told me that many of you wanted to do it on Sunday. It does not matter to me. I am open for both days.
Early Bird 02-24-2003, 04:40 PM Count me IN, for what ever, where ever, and when ever...............
mikesdl 02-24-2003, 10:59 PM Sunday will be a better day for me as well
Mike SDL
4NDELIT 02-25-2003, 12:30 AM witht he gas prices on the rise (about 1.80) and the 450 getting 15 mpg on these long trips, I'm not sure if I'll make it to the next one. The trips to Alon's cost 30 bucks in gas for there and back, I'd be scared what it would cost with the gas prices up even if it's closer. I'm afraid I might not make it to this one guys...:(
Ashman 02-25-2003, 12:56 AM this one wont be at my house.
Alon
Cannoli 02-25-2003, 01:36 AM I can appreciate your concern with gas prices these days ... I just drove to and from the San Diego area to the Bay Area ... about 1000 miles round trip. I dropped some coin on that trip.
Any way, you are more than welcome to meet me in Carlsbad and I'll drive from there. Glen Tokuhara lives up the hill from me so I'm sure we'll caravan together as well. Let me know.
4NDELIT 02-25-2003, 10:32 AM that would be great... maybe we could have breakfast before we left or somethin. We'll keep in touch as the date nears.

4NDELIT 02-25-2003, 02:03 PM sorry... I forgot about that. That would be great, as long as we can find a safe place to leave my car. It seems like there are a lot of san diego benz guys... maybe we should have a meet down here sometime! ;)
placo1 02-25-2003, 08:59 PM Great idea, I'm not too far and could easily venture down for a GTG in San Diego.
Have we decided what everyone will bring for this GTG at Seal Beach?
keista 02-26-2003, 09:44 PM Won't be able to make the 16th - will be in Chicago for a trade show....
cj750rock 02-27-2003, 12:47 AM Partsman, did you locate a place for us? Let me know where that is. I am planning on being there by 9 am. Phil, are you bringing the grill?
BTW, it is Sunday, right?
Fastlane Phil 02-27-2003, 09:45 AM Yes, it will be on Sunday. I'll bring the grill. I'm going down there this week end to pick the spot. I'll post it this coming Sunday or Monday.
Looking forward to seeing a great turn out.

Ashman 03-04-2003, 03:26 AM From Phil..
"Hi Alon,

I'm in. Head count starts now. Chime in if you are definately in on this. I think $10.00 is a worthy fee, so count me in on the $10.00. Lets see if we can reserve parking too. that would be killer.

We will be there as well (John and Leise). What can we bring? Home made cookies? Salad? paper plates/utensils?
Maybe a sign up list for needed goodies. Also a map of the park?
Fastlane Phil 03-04-2003, 10:46 AM Hi John,
I got your phone message. I'll have all the information posted by this afternoon. We will have a private park area with parking and all. I'll get the directions posted as soon as I have a little more info.We need to find out head count, who wants to bring what. Any suggestions are welcomed. This is for the whole family. Anyone with yard games are encouraged to bring them as well. We'll be about 1-1/2 miles from Main Street & the pier. That's all for now. Lets see a large group. Our area is reserved for up to 200 people.

partsman
placo1 03-04-2003, 11:52 AM Rich,
Are you going to try a new wax before the GTG? My car is a mess from this weekends drive to Palomar Mt. I didn't think there would be snow up there....luckily they hadn't salted the roads!
Phil,
I'll bring Hot Dogs and Buns, just need a head count.
Fastlane Phil 03-04-2003, 12:01 PM Sounds great. Hot dogs and buns are your department. It's settled.
Will be nice to see everyone again and a lot of our new members too.
This talking about food has me hungry.

mark cummins 03-05-2003, 03:09 PM Sooo What Date Is The GTG/BBQ The 15th or the 16th?
Thanks
suginami 03-05-2003, 06:58 PM I believe it was confirmed for Sunday, the 16th.
placo1 03-10-2003, 02:48 PM So has the caravan from San Diego decided where we're going to meet for coffee Sunday Morning? I'll be coming across the Ortega Hwy.
Cannoli 03-10-2003, 05:42 PM Ok, since Afshin will be coming from the Ortega Highway (very jealous, Afshin), let's meet at the following Starbucks in San Juan Capistrano:
Starbucks
27211 Ortega Hwy
San Juan Capistrano, CA 926752703
949-661-5801
Next Decision ...
What time shall we meet?
4NDELIT 03-10-2003, 06:22 PM you know what... I'm actually gonna bail on you guys... sorry! There's a lot of stuff coming up, and I'm not sure if I can make it. I'll see you guys again sometime though, maybe at a San Diego GTG (hint, hint!;) )
Early Bird 03-10-2003, 07:12 PM Hey Robert, if its gas money you need I'll pay your way, but you MUST stay away from the Gucamole............
San Diego members, if you're interested in joining a caravan to the GTG, see this thread:
http://www.mercedesshop.com/shopforum/showthread.php?threadid=59253
:)
4NDELIT 03-11-2003, 01:34 AM never mind... I'm gonna ride with the caravan, so even though my car won't be there, I will. And no, I won't eat all the guacamole (just a little!)
suginami 03-12-2003, 03:20 PM Just noticed on the weather report this morning that rain is in the forecast for late in the afternoon on Saturday, raining all through Sunday.
We might have to move this thing up one day to Saturday or postpone to next weekend....
placo1 03-12-2003, 03:39 PM I'll be the first to admit I hate driving my car in the rain........mainly because it takes too long to clean it afterwords!:D
But in all seriousness if it is raining we will definitely be limited with regards to activities. Hate to say it but we might be better off moving the GTG or just meeting at a Restuarant somewhere instead.
The question is can Phil change the reservations at the park and is the cash refundable?
suginami 03-12-2003, 06:21 PM Here is a link to the weather forecast for Huntington Beach on Sunday: a high of 56 degrees and rain:
http://www.weather.com/weather/detail/USCA0500?dayNum=4
Satuday looks like a beautiful day. Anyone for this Saturday?
If not, how about next Saturday? I'm traveling to Vancouver next Sunday, so it's a bad day for me....:(
4NDELIT 03-12-2003, 06:31 PM I'm always free! (I'd be scared to see what gas prices got themselves up to then!!! click here (http://www.thesandiegochannel.com/news/2035999/detail.html) to see what I mean)
William420 03-12-2003, 07:35 PM Moving to next SAT might not be a good idea as it's HPS open house. By the way, all Mercedesshop members are invited to attend so please come out and join us -> Tour of HPS, catered lunch (provided by HPS), test drive HPS Supercharged E430, Talk to HPS reps and fellow Benz enthusiasts. It should be fun.
http://www.bnzsport.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2213
Moving this GTG a day earlier to SAT or postpone it 2 weeks later might work better?
Ashman 03-12-2003, 08:18 PM on another note, the beverly hills mercedes dealer on this sunday the 16th has their classics for charity car show. Everything from beautiful mercedes cars to exotics and customs will be on display.
But Our GTg takes precedence for me.
Never trust the weather reports myself 100%, because the weather is unpredictable.
Alon
suginami 03-12-2003, 09:30 PM I think that sounds like a good plan, Alon.
Let's play it by ear.
If it happens to rain, we can always take the gtg indoors somewhere, like at a restaurant.
placo1 03-12-2003, 11:25 PM I'm not sure if the play it by ear idea is going to work.
Many of use are planning on bringing perishable foods to cook, if it is pouring rain and we end up at a restuarant many will have a great deal of wasted food.
So do we want to change the plans now or just have the BBQ as it stands?
Bayer 03-13-2003, 02:52 AM Sorry I'll be in Tucson for that weekend, maybe next time.
Greetings from San Diego !!!
4NDELIT 03-13-2003, 02:59 AM where in san diego? It's a big city after all
Ashman 03-13-2003, 04:52 AM Well THats the thing. We should maybe prepare to bring some tarps to set up for rain cover if any, If some people have some tarps on poles then that would work in the event of rain.
Alon
Fastlane Phil 03-13-2003, 10:31 AM I rented the covered BBQ area so we should be in good shape just in case.
partsman
drbrandini 03-13-2003, 12:23 PM Good Good, now I have something to do even if it does rain ! :D
The Godfather 03-13-2003, 12:35 PM sorry can't make this one, finals next week.
4NDELIT 03-13-2003, 12:36 PM I've got spring break next week. :D have fun in finals!
cj750rock 03-13-2003, 01:21 PM I am willing to show for the GTG either way. How many times can you get that "wet look" on your car w/o polishing?
But really, I would prefer a sunny day.
suginami 03-13-2003, 06:13 PM Well, FWIW, it looks like the heavy rain is coming Saturday night, and the chance of rain for Sunday is now down to 30%. If it comes, it will be in the morning, tapering off throughout the day.
It might work out after all.
Maybe I should go in the weather forecasting business. My wife says I look like a news reporter anyway...:D
