Just bought a 1998 C230 2 months ago for my wife. Great car. Yesterday the windshield cracked. Maybe had something to do with the 20 degree temperature yesterday. Anyway, the insurance company is having a glass shop replace it. They asked if i have the rain sensor, which i don think it did in 1998. Anything i need to make sure they do like use only certain type of windshield?

I would do a search and make sure the replacement part is OEM. I ended up with PPG. The glass shop ordered the part from the local dealer, picked it up, and installed it for me. You'd know if you had the rain sensor... it would be a different part and make the job more complicated.
The windshield of my 98 C230 was replaced a year ago - they used the Mercedes Glass with the star. PPG is now the supplier for MB glass, apparently. At any rate, my impression is the PPG is much more 'soft' than the Sekurit brand that came on the car. I already have many noticable pits and a wiper streak mark. If I have to do the windshield in the future, I will tell them to keep their star, and install the Sekurit.
Also, the MB glass doesn't come with the white Daimler sticker. If that is important to you, get a sticker from the dealer, and have the glass people remove your old windshield, place it on a flat surface, and lay the new windshield on top of the old one (use towels). That way they can install the new sticker in the same place.
