I have decided to do a engine conversion (2.6 16v), but now I need to upgrade my suspension. MY choices are: 1. Factory self leveling w/ eibach pro springs or, 2. Amg springs and shocks kit.
I live in Boston (potholes), so I need a set up that will give me good handling and some basic ride comfort. I'll be using Amg monoblock wheels. (17x7.5 w/ 215-40 tires) I am new to the performance game, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Unless you're going racing (only) stick with the stock rear suspension. On the front go with good lowering springs & shortened struts (bilstein sport are good). Keep it
simple since you are driving on the street!! In the rear use lowering springs & adjust the leveling valve to lower the car, make sure to have the alignment reset. Keep all of the specs stock except for front camber, have it set to .75 deg. & have fun!

I would personally get rid of the factory rear self-leveling suspension. First you are going to be putting more power in the car, new shocks will do you good. Also if you are putting a bigger engine and have 17" wheels you are obviously after performance. While the rear shocks are OK, some Bilstein Sports or AMG's will be better, and they are not so hard that they are not good for street use. Your biggest problem their is bending 17" wheels on pot holes, with the rubber you will have to run on a 17" wheel you are not going to have much protection for the wheel. Also by removing the self-leveling suspension you can pull that hydraulic pump off the engine and get a plug from Bekkers. This will give you a few more hp.
